The highest incidence of skin cancer, including melanoma occurs among fair-skinned population in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Government sponsored nationwide educational programs have been instituted in Australia which now sees a decrease in melanoma incidence. Tanning beds and salons are also associated with melanoma and are attributed as the primary cause of melanoma in young adults. Government policies have banned tanning beds in Australia altogether and an increasing number of states in the USA have prohibited use of tanning beds for those under 18 years of age. The government of Poland now uses this as a model policy in their country.
