Regional / Global Screening Policies

Guidelines developed by oncology experts at the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) have been used worldwide for all cancers, including specific situation in all stages of cancer, and guidelines for screening and prevention. Dr Gradishar, Chair of the NCCN Breast Guidelines Committee reviews guidelines for major cancers, including lung, prostate and colorectal cancer.

The “European Beating Cancer Plan” is described with the goal of increasing participation in all European countries with standardized cancer prevention and screening guidelines to reduce the cancer burden. These include tobacco cessation, use of cancer anti-viral vaccines, and screening for breast, uterine cervix, lung, and colorectal cancer. The Singapore Health System has initiated a “National Health Screening Program “Screen for Life” with screening recommendations based on age and gender, and pre-existing conditions for cervical breast and colorectal cancers. Although the incidence of cancer has increased the proportion of patients presenting with advanced cancer has significantly decreased. They have instituted a series of biomarker and radiological screening studies for gastric, colorectal and lung cancer.

Developed by 60 experts from across Latin America, this comprehensive document adapts global cancer prevention strategies for regional implementation, targeting both the public and policymakers. The code presents 17 evidence-based recommendations for cancer prevention that are not only effective but also feasible and implementable within Latin American contexts.
