On June 17, 2026, the leaders of the G7—joined by Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya, and the Republic of Korea—issued a joint call to accelerate the global fight against cancer, a disease that kills nearly 10 million people a year and whose incidence is projected to rise 80% by 2050. The declaration commits signatories to deepen international scientific cooperation, close persistent gaps in prevention and early detection, and ensure progress in oncology reaches every patient. Three priorities anchor the call: responsible cross-border data sharing for pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancers; intensified research on cancers with poor prognosis, including a pledge to significantly reduce lung cancer mortality within ten years; and stronger, more equitable access to quality care. Leaders welcomed that recent advances have brought the elimination of cervical cancer within reach.
